Careers and employability

The objectives and format of the course (including exposure to diverse practice settings) means that ADVANCES graduates will be equipped to work in senior social work roles in a wide range of settings, including social services, social welfare, international development and non-governmental organisations.  

A September 2017 survey reveals that ADVANCES alumni work in a wide range of fields: 

  • United Nations country offices: UNDP, World Food Programme, IFAD
  • International charities: World Vision International, Save the Children, Eyesight International
  • PhD programmes: in United Kingdom, South Africa and New Zealand
  • Higher education: university lecturer
  • Social services: frontline practice
  • NGOs: fundraising/operational director
  • EU Neighbourhood programmes: social inclusion project manager
  • Private sector: corporate social responsibility
  • Embassy/consulates: child protection specialist
